This is a collection of some of my favorite music from this year, Rock, Classical, Pop, Electro, House and Techno. There are a handful of tunes from late 2008, but 95% of it is from 2009. Week 28

The first third of this weeks show will all be slow minimal techno, dominated mainly by Tracks by Jeff Samuel. He just released a really lovely collection of his finest works. Despite sticking to the usual hiss and click formula that is typical of this genre, he manages to infuse a sense of momentum is often lacking. After that I've got some electro and house by Ladyhawke, Headman, Space and the Juan McClean. I particularly like headman - dirt (the c90's remix). In the later section Ill have one of my favorite songs of the decade, Salif Keita - Madan. It's not exactly new, released in 2002, but I heard it first this year and I doubt many people will have heard it before. Salif is a Albino from Mali who specialies in Afro-Pop, this is from his best album Moffou. Filling in the gaps will be the runaways - lovers, and Beach House - Norway, both great songs.

Air, Alex Gopher & Etienne De Crecy - Asy Sync
Jeff samuel - knob
Walter Jones - I am loved
Dj kozze - all the time
Jeff samuel - kapstiff
Move d - a day in the life
Ladyhawke - paris is burning (alex gopher mix)

Week 27

I have a lovely and varied collection of songs today. Ill start off with some very slow pieces from Fuck Buttons and Telefon Tel Aviv, then I have a fascinating collabaration between Brian Eno & Karl Hyde called Beebop Hurry. Travelling halfway across the globe I have a beautiful song by Fela Kuti called ITT part 2. Following that I'll have some deep house and techno from Sascha Funke, Danton Eeprom, Dapayk Solo and Ben Klock. Standout track is Zander VT - Dig your own rave. Its a is a wonderfully deep affair, all sweeping strings and padded kickdrums - a muted Detroit rave-up that's beautifully produced. (I stole that quote!)

I'll finish with a track by Sven Weisermann and Maps. Sven Weisermann is an interesting character a Dj from berlin who has released house and techno. He has made an album of modern classical music (if there is such a thing) called Xine (1st Voyage). Not every track is worthwhile, but those that are are fantastic. There's an interesting interview with him here: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1034

Enjoy!

Week 26

I have a great selection of music this week, so many songs I'll probably go a little over my scheduled hour. I'll play the only track I havent played yet from the Fields latest album. This one is called Sequenced, and this like Leave it, is one of the tracks on which you can really hear the difference in the new material since he is using a real drummer rather than a drum machine. Ill also be playing two tracks by The Phenonmenal Handclap Band, 15 to 20 and You'll dissapear albeit both heavily remixed to make them dancefloor friendly. As a contrast ill be playing Paul Simon - Diamonds Dub (Tangoterje Edit). This appears on the latest Disco No Disco compliation, of which I've played a few tracks already on previous shows. This is probably my favorite album of the year. Each song is a very subtle reworking of a classic song from the last 30 years. I love that each one is done in the style of the song itself, so the remix is hard to spot.

I also have some great new Deep Techno, most of it from the excellent Liebe Detail - Digital Compilation 01. Nearly every track is great on this, I chose some almost at random. In between all this I have a new Uffie Remix, a great Sirusmo Remix of Chromeo, new hip hop from Clipse F Camron and some other stuff. Enjoy!!!!!

Instead of a streaming link here is a rapidshare link to a relatively high quality version

Week 25

his week I have a very relaxed set of tracks to play. I got an excellent album recently, Disco Not Disco, which is a collection of very subtle remixes of great rock tracks. They are all really good, and ill be playing three of the best this week, Paul Simons - Diamonds Dub (Tangoterje edit), America - Horse with no name (Leo Zero edit) and Chic - I want your love (also a Leo Zero Edit). I also have a fantastic deep techno track, oh superman, by booka shade. If all music was this lovely the world would be a nice place. Filling in the gaps will be another new Field song, some great techno by egbert and heron and some recent Radio Slave tracks. Enjoy!

Kid Cudi - Hyerrr

Week 24

This is probably the best collection of songs I've played so far, I'm in love with each track. Of all the shows I've done I think this collection best gets across the aesthetic I aspire to for the show. I have two tracks from the Fields brilliant new album, Several relatively new tracks from Oliver $, who is the best new (new to me anyway) producer I've come across this year. I think I described his music as Jacking House earlier in the year, Jacking Dub Techno is probably a better description, I tried to find what he described it but unfortunately wasn't able to. I met him in Berlin earlier in the year but unfortunately was too drunk to do anything but shake his hand, rather vigorously.

Ill be starting with an excellent, subtle reworking of Paul Simon's - Late (by Dj Spin), and also playing some tracks from a collection from one of my favorite labels. The Collection is Focus on Rekids, compiled and mixed by Tobias Thomas. Enjoy!

Paul Simon - Late (Dj spun edit)
Echologist - Honeyslide

Beyonce - Broken Hearted Girl (Alan Braxe Dub Remix)
The Prodigy - Climbatize

Week 23

I'm going away for the weekend to party, so to get everyone in the mood I'm planning on playing plenty of driving techno to get everyone in the right mood. I have some absolutely brilliant new techno tracks, Volte & Salvatore - Tiramisu, Ben Klock - Goodly Sin (Rob Hood remix), Hollen - Beat Active (Piatto remix) & Cirez D - On Off are all excellent. I'll throw in a few classics for good measure, Juergens - Love it & Audion - mouth to mouth, and some tracks from the Fields new album. The album (Yesterday & Today) is really good, better than I expected. I'm not sure what to make of Vitalics album yet, it definitely lacks the immediacy of any of his earlier work. None of the tracks really impressed me, bar Sea the Sea which I already played a few weeks ago. I'll leave you with Florence and the Machines gorgeous remix of You've got the love. Enjoy!

HJ Radio 22

John Casey joined me this week, JC has a weekly show on Near FM, every Tuesday at 10pm. You can listen to his show at this link http://www.near.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=50, & check out his blog at http://johncaseyblog.blogspot.com/

We wanted a theme for the show, and JC came upon the idea of collaboration or symbiotic relationships in music, be it between fellow artists or artist and producer. He has selected a music in a wide variety of styles, Jazz, Electronica & Classical. I have gone for collaborations between artists from east and west.

There were some slight technical hiccups, I cut off The protecting veil early, so I played it again at the end. Apologies, and thanks again to John

Week 17

This week I'll be playing a lot of techno, mostly new but with a few classics thrown in. The last time I heard of Fergie, he was making scaldy euro dance. He has come a long way since them, the second song I'll be playing is by him (called Ireland), and is my favorite techno track in a long time. It sounds like something Regis and James Ruskin would like to make. I also have two tracks by the secretive Atushi Yano. His recent ep is great, full of African tribal rhythm and grooves, I haven't been able to find out any information about him apart from that though. Another track I'm loving this week is Junior Rafeal - anything 4 your love. Its a scary scary track, wild piano keys over a pounding bassline, whilst a crazy sounding dude explains that he will do anything for your love, he'll even f*ck your friends!

Ill be finishing with some Folk and Hip Hop, by Dead Man's Bones & raekwon feat Ghostface killer respectively. Enjoy!

I also have two excellent remixes by Alex Metric, some Somailian Hip Hop (which ill start with) , a track from Andrew Weatherall's new album and some other recent bits and bobs. The second track is by Siriusmo, I played another really good track by him last week. Week 14

I've been playing too much house and techno over the last few weeks, so this week I'm going to focus more on some new ambient, hip hop and electronica. I'm going to start and finish with two tracks from Julianne Barwick. Its hard to describe her music, its similar to Steve Reich but using her vocals as the sole instrument. Whatever it is, its fantastic. The two tracks are from her album Florine, released in April. Next up, I have another track to go into my 2009 favorities folder, Nights off by Siriusmo. Simple but beautiful lo fi electronica. I also have new tracks from milke, robert wurtz, simian mobile disco, zoot woman, some african house from myd and a great track called seamonkey by moderat. Technically it's dubstep, but had it been released four years ago it would of been called techno and no-one would think its strange. The worst thing about doing this show is trying to put everything into simple genres....argh!!!! Also, new techno from speedy J and old house classics by dino lenny and fred falke. Enjoy!

I have a real soft spot for electronic songs that manage to convey a real sense of melenchony and angst, maybe because it is so hard to do well. (Deadmau5's remix of I'm not alone is another good example, or VLetrmx21 by Autechre.) Beside that I'll be playing loads of brand new & recent deep house & techno by Aril Brikha, Oxia, Jamie McHugh and others, also Yuh Eye too Fast, a new track by dancehall queen Lady Chan & potential huge summer crossover hit- No Reasons by Vega. Enjoy!
